My primary research interest is to identify the mechanisms leading to impaired vascular function with advancing age. Specifically, I focus on vascular impairments related to reduced endothelial function, increased arterial stiffness, increased arterial permeability, and increased susceptibility to hemodynamic changes. In addition, I am interested in determining the functional consequences of these vascular impairments. My current projects include:
- Elucidating the mechanisms for cerebral artery dysfunction with advancing age, specifically related to the role of endothelial cell telomere dysfunction, senescence, and inflammation.
- Determining the functional consequences of increased large artery stiffness on cerebral and skeletal muscle resistance arteries.
- Identifying the consequences of endothelial cell telomere uncapping on cerebral artery function.
