Congrats to Garrett Morgan On His New PLOS One Publication

We have just published a extremely novel and exciting manuscript titled “Age-Associated ALU Element Instability in White Blood Cells Is Linked to Lower Survival in Elderly Adults: A Preliminary Cohort Study” in PLOS one. This study suggests that ALU elements (short interspersed nuclear elements) in WBCs can predict mortality in a small cohort of elderly adults. This suggest genomic instability as assessed by ALU element abundance plays an important role in health of older adults. We are vigorously pursuing this area of research in our laboratory and will have more studies looking into this burgeoning area.
